Prepping For Your Holiday Guests

While Thanksgiving may be over, Christmas and New Year's will be here before we know it! That means more celebrations, including lots of eating and spending time with family. If you are hosting guests, you may be eyeing that guest room and noticing that it may need some prepping. Making sure this space is comfortable yet homey is always appreciated by your guests. Here are a few pointers on how to ensure your guest space takes care of all of your visitor’s needs.
Pick the Right Mattress
This may seem obvious, but it’s important to have the right mattress when hosting guests. Try sleeping in your guest room prior to your guest’s arrival, even if it’s just for a short nap. If you’re feeling any discomfort, odds are your guest will too. It may be time to get a new mattress for your guest room. Ideally, a king-size mattress is best for couples if you have space in your room, but a queen is also sufficient. Keep it Comfortable
Making sure your guest feels comfortable and at home is important when hosting. As we mentioned, having the right mattress is very important, but also having the right sheets, pillows and blankets, and other accessories is necessary to have a complete guest room. Take a rest on your pillows, and if they feel a bit old or outdated, it’s probably time to invest in a few new ones. Purchasing pillows that are ideal for side sleepers is the way to go because it is the most common sleep position. Finally, adding a few holiday decorations inside the guest room can really help to bring some holiday spirit to the space.
De-Clutter
Oftentimes, when it’s not around the holidays, the guest room is used as a place to store certain items. Whether it be extra clothes that won’t fit in your closet, luggage, decorations, you name it, it can get in the way of your guest. Try to make sure that there is still an ample amount of space either in the closet or in a dresser that they could use to store some of their belongings. If the space your guest will be staying in happens to double as a living room (hello pull-out couch!) or another common area, clean up any clutter and try to give them a small space to put their items.
