Taking Care of Your Sheets & Other Bedding Accessories

You’ve already had your whole bedroom fitted, with a great mattress, pillows, and sheet set- the whole nine yards. Now that you have everything you need, you should be getting a great night’s sleep, right? It’s important to make sure that you are not only getting the best products for you, but that you are also taking care of them so that they maintain their high quality for years to come.

Washing Sheets/Bedding

A lot of people prefer different routines when it comes to cleaning their bedding. As a general consensus, it is recommended to wash your sheets at least bi-weekly, if not every week to get out any dirt and dust that may have built up. Same thing goes for your duvet or comforter. Washing these items frequently will ensure that they are staying clean and rid of germs. It is recommended to use hot water when washing your sheets, and to pay close attention when washing sheets with certain prints or trims.

When it comes to purchasing new sheets or a new comforter, you should look to replace them once they have started to show some signs of aging. If they feel worn, are frayed, or if it’s time to change your style up a bit, opting for a fresh new pair of sheets and comforter is a solid option.

Washing Pillows

Washing your pillow doesn’t have to be an ordeal. It’s as simple as washing your other bedding! Before throwing them in your washer, check the tag to make sure they are machine washable. Wash your pillows with warm water to get rid of any dust, sweat or allergens that may be hidden.  After washing in hot water, air dry your pillows rather than putting them in the dryer. This can be done at least twice a year, if not more depending on your personal preference. As for washing pillowcases, this is recommended about once a week, or however often you are washing your sheets. Your pillowcases can collect face oils, lotions, hair products, etc. and should be washed as frequently if not more frequently as your sheets.

Protecting your Mattress

Your mattress is the most important piece of furniture that you’ll own, or so we believe! You spend a third of your life sleeping, so its very important to make sure you are taking care of and protecting your mattress properly. Using a mattress protector can help to keep out any dirt, spills, allergens, etc. from getting onto the mattress itself. You can also wash your mattress protector if you feel that it needs a cleaning. Follow the instructions on the protector, but a general rule of thumb would be
