Mattress Warehouse Pikeville changes name to Sleep Outfitters and moves to new Pikeville location
There are big changes afoot for Mattress Warehouse. The mattress retailer is changing its name to Sleep Outfitters and moving to a new location, in front of Lowes.
Since its 2012 opening in Pikeville, Mattress Warehouse has been located in the Weddington Square Shopping Center. Company officials think the new location will make it easier for more shoppers to find the store.
As for the name change, Innovative Mattress Solutions (Mattress Warehouse’s and Sleep Outfitters’ parent company) operates 39 stores in Kentucky, all but two of which (Ashland and Russell) are named Sleep Outfitters.
Stores in Lexington, Louisville, Bowling Green and Paducah operate under the Sleep Outfitters banner. Company officials say eventually all Kentucky stores will operate as Sleep Outfitters, a name they say better describes what the company does, outfitting customers for a healthy life.
The Sleep Outfitters’ philosophy is that sleep is as important as diet and exercise for optimum healthy, productive living. The company offers customers an exclusive sleep assessment to determine what, if any, sleeping problems the customer may have, and then finds the right mattress to solve those problems and help the customer get a better night’s sleep.
Sleep Outfitters features mattresses and pillows from Tempur-Pedic, Sealy and Stearns & Foster, as well as adjustable foundations, sheets, mattress protectors, frames and head boards.
The Lexington-based company was founded in 1983 by Louisville native and University of Kentucky alumna Kim Brown Knopf, who continues to serve as chief executive officer. She opened her first store in South Charleston, W.Va. Today, Sleep Outfitters’ parent firm, Innovative Mattress Solutions, operates more than 160 stores in six states—West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee and Alabama—under the Mattress Warehouse, Sleep Outfitters and Mattress King names.
